One of the most important outcomes of the Future of Research Symposium was giving young scientists a voice; to address the problems we perceive in the academic system and to give our proposed solutions and make our voices heard. Here is an opportunity for you to give input as part of a discussion framework including scientists at all levels across the biological sciences.

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) released a discussion framework last month called “Sustaining Discovery in Biological and Biomedical Sciences,” which describes many challenges facing the research enterprise and proposes a series of recommendations. They have been studying many of the same issues as the Future of Research has been addressing, including the career prospects of current trainees.

You can find the report via this link.

You can also find a survey here for everyone, including postdocs and students, to share their views on FASEB’s proposed recommendations. Responses received by March 10th will be analyzed, summarized, and presented to the FASEB Board.

We encourage everyone to contribute their opinions and ideas as part of this consulation. We need to continue to make our voices heard, and contribute to the conversation.
